A small amount of data, used for clear purposes.

No data sales

We do not sell your personal information or use it for behavioral advertising.

Your visibility choice

Comments can be public or private. The selected setting controls who sees them.

Reading, not profiling

Activity data supports progress, copywork, and community features.

Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information needed to identify your account, such as your name, email address, and profile image. We do not receive your Google password.

Reading and copywork activity

We may store your current reading position, passages you have read, saved passages, completed copywork, and typing-session details such as accuracy, speed, mistakes, and time spent.

Comments, replies, likes, and reports

We store the thoughts you write, their public or private visibility, replies, likes, and reports you submit so that community and moderation features work.

Technical information

Our hosting and authentication providers may process standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, request time, and security logs when you access the service.

How we use information

  • Authenticate you and keep your account session secure.
  • Return you to the place where you stopped reading.
  • Show your saved passages, comments, replies, and copywork in My Passages.
  • Display public conversations and community activity.
  • Prevent abuse, review reports, troubleshoot problems, and protect the service.
  • Maintain and improve the reading and copywork experience.

Public and private comments

Public comments and replies can be read by other visitors and may appear with author initials and a timestamp. Private comments are not displayed to other readers. Authorized administrators may access stored content when necessary to operate the service, investigate abuse, or comply with legal obligations.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information in public comments. Once information has been shared publicly, other people may copy or quote it beyond our control.

Cookies and local preferences

Essential cookies are used to maintain sign-in and security. The reader stores font, font size, and book-width preferences in your browser's local storage. These local preferences remain on your device until you clear them. The Passage does not currently use advertising cookies.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to operate the service. They process information under their own terms and privacy policies:

We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the public, or the integrity of the service.

Retention and security

We retain account and activity information for as long as it is needed to provide the service, preserve community conversations, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Deleted comments or replies may remain in a deactivated state for a limited period for moderation, security, backup, or legal purposes.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including access controls and encrypted network connections. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

  • Choose public or private visibility when writing a comment.
  • Edit or delete comments and replies using the controls provided in the reader.
  • Sign out to end your current authenticated session.
  • Clear browser storage to remove locally saved reader preferences.
  • Use your Google Account settings to manage information held by Google.

For access, correction, or deletion requests beyond the controls available in the service, contact The Passage through the support channel published with the service. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service changes. The revised date at the top of this page will show when the latest version took effect. Material changes will be communicated through the service when appropriate.
